Auto Insurance For Teens -- To Ensure Their Safety And Also Pay Far Less
Insurers regard teen drivers as the highest risks as far as age groups are concerned. The incidence of car crashes among them is so high that many parents will prefer they don't drive within their teen years. Notwithstanding this may work for a few parents, it might not work in many others.
Peer pressure makes it unacceptable for them to be the only teens among their peers who can't drive yet. So what can you do to both ensure your teen driver safer and reduce the typically high car insurance rates teen drivers attract? Following are tips that will be of great help whether you're or not...
Most teens will tell you they are adults once it comes to privileges. Few of them, though, would ever complain if you insist that they show they've grown old enough for the privilege by taking on some of, or all of, the responsibilities that come with it.
Make them pay their auto insurance premium themselves or at least contribute a sizeable chunk. Whatever suggestions you make thereafter that will help reduce what they pay will be more easily accepted because they're the ones paying and they will also be the ones to benefit from lower auto insurance rates.
Give your teen driver this set of rules and they will be the safer if they abide by it...
1) Let them never drive in company of fellow teens or kids unless there is a responsible adult in the car.
2) Let there be an agreement between you and your teenager that they won't drive in the night. For those whom this may not be an option, teach your teen what to do and how to drive at night.
Most accidents happen between 9.00pm and 2.00am.
3) They must never touch the steering wheel once they've taken any form of alcoholic beverage. Take note that to be on the safe side they should know that they are not allowed to drive if they take so much as a sip of alcoholic beverage.
4) Let it be ingrained in your teenager that they are not on a race track even when they are on the highway.
Have a stiff sanction if they violate speed limits or traffic laws.
5) They must tell you where they intend to drive to with their cars. It may be hard sometimes but there are place where your teen is better off using public transport.
Yes, these may not work in homes where the parents and teens don't have a good relationship already. Nevertheless you can lower your teen's rates by getting and comparing quotes.
